Wawona Preview

Today I finished carving a small test sections for the Wawona sculpture. This piece was to just get a sense of how our system would work. So far it is looking like it will work on the larger scale. I even added a little bit of oil to this wood to get a better sense of what the piece will look like, this piece only had grey and yellow color too it though, we still need to do some test on what the reds, greens, and purples will turn out like. It's great to see this piece finally coming together after working with the wood for so long.

Lazy Sunday

Well I'm not really sure what to blog about today, I wanted to blog about something but then I couldn't find it, I'm not sure where I left it, or even if I ever had it. I guess what I'm going to blog about today is my day. Today was a pretty laid back Sunday. I woke up around 8 or so, made some coffee, chatted with Carmel for a bit, then I made a ring. After that I went into work, I got some korean bbq for lunch, the gyoza combo with bbq pork and beef, it was good. I then spent some time at work setting up a way to drill out some holes that needed to be drilled at different angles in this one test piece, it's kind of complicated to explain. I got those holes drilled then I carved on that piece for awhile as well. I only worked about 6 hours today then I set about working on my own stuff for a few more hours. This must all sound really vague and for those of you who are still reading at this point, I'm sorry, I just didn't really know what to blog about today. Maybe I'll have some good stuff for tomorrow. Anyway, here is a picture of a dog wearing a disguise.

What Is Truth?

This Johnny Cash song seems to pop up a lot on my ipod whenever I have it on shuffle. It's a great song that still holds a lot of truth to this day.

song starts at the 1:50 mark.

Watch This

This would be a nice way to live.

Produced and directed by Ben Wu and David Usui,

of Lost & Found Films (www.lostfoundfilms.com).

THIS MUST BE THE PLACE

There's no place like home. It's where we live, work and dream. It's our sanctuary and our refuge. We can love them or hate them. It can be just for the night or for the rest of our lives. But whoever we may be, we all have a place we call home.

THIS MUST BE THE PLACE is a series of short films that explore the idea of home; what makes them, how they represent us, why we need them.

We're always on the lookout for dwellings of all sorts. If you've come across any curious or eccentric homes, feel free to send them along.

It's Been A Month

Well it's been a month since I started making a ring a day and also since I started blogging every day. It's been tough at some times but I've managed to keep on track so far.

Here are the rings I made for each day.

In total I made 43 rings in January. Some days I made 2 or 3 rings and I also had a few custom orders. Its been a good month sales wise in my shop. I sold 14 rings to people around the world. Hopefully it will continue to go up because I'm starting to have a overflow of rings in my apartment.

Planing

The past few days all I have been doing is running wood through the planer. Some pieces go through smoothly, others need a little persuasion. Either way it's a lot of work moving all that wood around. The results though are worth it. Resting below the surface is an amazing rainbow or colors. Each one is different. I took a few videos today and put them together, but youtube seems to be taking it's sweet time uploading it so I'll post it when they finally get around to it. but for now I have another photo of just one of the amazing pieces we are finding. This is a larger piece of the frame section with a crazy grain to it.

*Update, here is the video, it's kind of long.
